The upper and lower eyelids, and the orbital bones surrounding the eyes require very specialized approach to repair following trauma.

Dr. Symbas uses very detailed, specialized techniques to address injuries and trauma of the upper and lower eyelids and orbital region. Skin grafts or flaps, tissue substitutes, and tissue or bone grafts may be incorporated to achieve normal function and restore a natural appearance. In some cases, treatment and reconstruction of orbital trauma may require early or staged procedures.

Generally outpatient, treatment of trauma to the eyelids or eye region is most commonly performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the extent of your injury, correction may require an overnight stay when combined with other procedures.

You may engage in light activity the day after your surgery. Depending on the extent of your procedure and any accompanying procedures a return to more normal activity may take 1-2 weeks.

Proper skincare and sun protection including sunglasses are essential during healing.

Results can be long-term, however, depending on the severity of the injury, additional surgery may be necessary.
